Pilgrimage Persimmons

I see millions of trees monthly, but every now and then one stands out to me. A couple weeks ago, while working in the Duncan’s Creek Community of Rutherford County my client pointed out a memorable Persimmon that was loaded with fruit!

Several had ripened, dropped, and were scattered amongst the ground. It made me reminisce on my dad’s love for permissions. He conducted annual pilgrimages to various friends’ permission trees to collect fruit in order to dry for the winter. Living in Berea, Kentucky at the time, we always expected a bag of dried permissions at Thanksgiving and Christmas. It was fitting to be reminded of my dad’s birthday today by the bountiful persimmon!
